Singer-songwriter Barbara Alexandre’s, debut demo album, BLEAVE, tells intimate stories of life, love and loss. The melodic compositions and musical arrangements of Marco Volcy (AmeSoul, LMDS, Corneille, DonKarnage, Imposs) give this piece an original sound. Participations includes songwriter Rock Litz Maurice, musical arranger Sonny Black (Corneille, K-maro, Dubmatique) and the voice essence of the group One (Zoukin). These privileges brought the warmth and soft voices, the acoustic guitar, violin, piano and percussions of the R&B groove of the young artist. Barbara Alexandre sings with softness her most intimate stories marked by the departures, returns along with the urgency to live and to love.
It is in Montreal, her birth city, that Barbara took her first steps on the music scene. Torn between making movies, television, theater and music… She took them all! A self-taught artist, the young actress left Montreal to tour with the Canadian troop “SPIRIT OF NATION” where she discovered her singing skills. Not long after that, Barbara had the occasion to sing in Montreal, with her peers of PROCHANT music school in the Musical Theater “Les Miserables”. This play was directed by Hélène Grégoire (Watatatow, The Orphans of Duplessis).
Edging closer to a solo singing career with each production, in 2001 Barbara won the “Revelation Talent” award at the prestigious GALA REVELATION (formerly Gala Miss Personality) with her brilliant interpretation of her own composition “Reste”. The same year, she was honoured with the prize of “Jeunes Femmes Meritas” offered byCUMAJ.
These distinctions brought for her the opportunity to present at several singing events. Many opportunities resulted from it: The writing and the participation as singer in the group of “Emotion” formed by the Sizzle Records company. The first single “Chaque Minute Sans Toi ” written by Barbara, went to the top #5 on the charts for several weeks in Fredericton – CJPN (90.5 F.M.).
Time-out marked the year of 2003 for Barbara, when she and Oscar winner Halle Berry bonded with each other. Barbara decided to take a once in a lifetime tour on three feature films with the actor. These adventures lead her to Vancouver where she now resides. She’s made a strong connection with the French-speaking community in British Colombia who smiles back at her. The demo album project “Bleave” is again a project that could rise up her professional singing career.
In the spring 2008, Barbara takes advantage of the panoramic Mountain View that surrounds her and she is inspired to write again. She expresses herself not only with words and with music, but also with a personal voice that enriches itself with new collaborations of Vancouver artists.
This wonderful artist who studied with two of the biggest private singing schools in Quebec PROCHANT (Nancy Dumais, John Sébastien Lavoie, Mélanie Reneaud, Reads Boyer) and with the queen of the Soul, Jennifer Meade, founder of School JAM VOCAL (Corneille, Gage), Barbara Alexandre is pushing her limits by taking workshops to create more. Her efforts see themselves rewarded of an invitation for the French singing contest “Pacifique En Chanson” 2008 edition.
We understand right away, why the public is anxious to see the development of this emerging singing artist. Barbara Alexandre creates a magical universe of intimacy when she enters into the light.
